Runners lace up for annual Pride and Remembrance Run

TORONTO – Runners and walkers laced up for the 18th annual Pride and Remembrance Run Saturday.

The five-kilometre “fun run” or three-kilometre walk is a part of Pride Week celebrations.

Wellesley Street from Jarvis Street to and including Queen’s Park Circle will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

It began at the corner of Church and Wellesley streets at 9:30 a.m. and headed to Queen’s Park. After run festivities took place at the 519 Community Centre.

Premier Kathleen Wynne was among the 1,000 participants.

It is one of the largest fundraising events during Pride Week, so far, raising $85,000.

There are plenty of other Pride events in the city this weekend.

The Dyke March starts at 1 p.m.

The massive Pride parade is Sunday at 2 p.m. and is expected to draw one million.
